Seven schools meet in Fargo, ND today to discuss forming a new collegiate wrestling conference. From the Sioux Falls Argus Leader article:

South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Utah Valley State, Northern Colorado and Wyoming are expected to send representatives to the Fargodome today. Fresno State (Calif.) and Air Force Academy also have indicated a commitment.

The five wrestling members of the Big XII (Iowa State, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State) have approached this new league with a merger proposal.

Royals come back from trailing 5-0 to outlast the league-leading White Sox in 13 innings and win the 2-1. (Gotta love the Chicago Tribune's headline: Field of Screams.) Royals need to go 43-18 to finish .500, 25-36 to avoid 100 losses.

Basketball player J.R. Giddens will leave the University of Kansas and continue his collegiate career at another college, Kansas City radio station KMBZ reports in an on-air story. Giddens was recently seriously wounded in a brawl at a Lawrence, KS bar.

After all the Sturm und Drang, Marquette University decides to keep their current "Golden Eagles" nickname.

I'm sure there's a joke or three in there somewhere.

Does it get any better than sweeping a series from the New York Yankees? Certainly not for the struggling Kansas City Royals.

The win left the Royals a perfect 3-0 under new manager Buddy Bell and gave the last place Royals their first three game winning streak of the season. The crowd of 25,590 was enthused by their team's success and chanted, 'Sweep! Sweep! Sweep!' in the ninth inning.
